We are delighted to announce that the first paper from the SPIRAL (Safe Practice in Reducing Allergy in Laboratories) study has been published this month in the European Respiratory Journal.

Members of our department carried out this study of over 700 laboratory animal workers, and found that laboratory animal allergy (or LAA) is preventable in modern research facilities if appropriate attention is given to aeroallergen control through the use of individually ventilated cages in combination with good health and safety practice.

Further information on the SPIRAL study can be seen here

The study was funded by the NIHR.
