Current research interests:
  • The EMITS study was established to examine the effects of a change in transport policy on the air quality, public health, fabric of buildings, tourism and commercial trade in Oxford. I am assessing the impact that this policy has had on public health. This has involved a longitudinal study of school children’s lung function before and after the change, surveys of older adults’ cardio-respiratory symptoms and a case-crossover analysis of daily cardio-respiratory hospital admissions.

  • These analyses have made use, to varying degrees, of geographic information systems (GIS). Using GIS, health data can be displayed geographically allowing us to see how outcomes vary across the city. It is also allows us to measure traffic and pollution exposures based on individual home addresses and their proximity to roads.

  • The ALEGRO study was established to investigate potential geographical and generational differences in atopy levels in a rural Polish population. The study was run by a Polish team based in Wroclaw and I undertook the statistical analysis.

  • I have also been involved in studies assessing the impact of occupational exposures on respiratory symptoms in a variety of settings and urban-rural variations in atopy in Crete.
Statistics:

The statistical team has developed an expertise in statistical design and analysis of occupational surveys. For all other departmental projects, we also provide statistical design, data management, statistical analysis, presentation of results and dissemination of findings.
