Our Clinical Services:
  • Clinical referrals:
    • for occupational or environmental lung disease of all varieties;
    • from anywhere in the UK;
    • from OH providers, GPs or hospitals;
    • with the first appointment within 4 weeks of receipt of referral letter;
    • to provide inhalation testing where appropriate (specific and non-specific).
    • All referrals are seen as NHS patients

  • Immunological testing:
    • we perform specific serum IgE and IgG measurements;
    • we perform lymphocyte proliferation testing (including beryllium).

  • Workplace visits and studies.

  • Advice by telephone or email (see with whom can I discuss a case, further down on this page).

How do I make a referral? We currently require a referral letter from a doctor or occupational health practitioner, addressed to Professor Paul Cullinan.

Please include patient’s full name, DOB, current address and telephone number; and GP details if appropriate.

How long before a referred patient is seen? We aim to see referred patients within a month of receiving a referral.
With whom can I discuss a case? Please contact Professor Paul Cullinan or Dr Jo Szram for advice.
Who can give me advice on peak flow measurements? Please contact Julie Cannon for advice.
What learning opportunities do you provide for occupational health professionals? If you would like to visit our department and/or our Clinic, or set up a meeting with a specific person, please contact either Professor Paul Cullinan or Julie Cannon. What specific investigations are available for Occupational Asthma? Serial peak flow recording, specific bronchial provocation testing, skin prick testing, specific skin prick testing with occupational allergens, IgE measurement, and specific IgE measurement with exposure-specific antigens.
